Opus30 Castlemaine Chamber music concert series

2024

Welcome from the Artistic Director, Masahide Kurita, to the 2024 Opus30 Castlemaine Chamber Music Series.

I’m thrilled to be able to invite you to experience Castlemaine’s first permanent classical chamber music series at the intimate and iconic surrounds of the historic Opus30 gallery.

I believe that regardless of where you live, you should have access to fine music and we look forward very much to presenting a vibrant programme of wonderful music beautifully played.

Our 2024 line-up of brilliant musicians will deliver exceptional performances of a wide range of repertoire. The artists you will hear throughout the year are at the top of their field, working with major orchestras, chamber ensembles, and as soloists both here in Australia and abroad.

Highlights will include the extraordinarily pianist, Hoang Pham; the dynamic early music ensemble, Society XVII; International award winning Trio Anima Mundi; and celebrated soprano, Natsuko Minegishi. I’ll also have the pleasure of presenting for your enjoyment a recital of flute and piano music with renowned pianist and composer, Kenji Fujimura.

The final concert of the series will showcase the Goldfields Quartet in a sumptuous programme of favourites for flute and strings.

We hope to bring the joy and wonder of live music to as many people as possible in our beautiful Mt. Alexander Shire, so please spread word of our new chamber music series. Further details will be announced soon, so, watch this space!

Romantic Flute - Flute and Piano

Saturday 27th July, 2:30pm

A concert of Dvorak, Nielsen and Franck.

Internationally renowned musicians, Masahide Kurita (Flute) and Kenji Fujimura (Piano) will take you on a Romantic musical journey.

Flautist, Masahide Kurita, is well known internationally for his outstanding technical virtuosity, rich tone and sensitive, profound musicality. His delicately nuanced attention to detail gives his music-making a rare honesty, beauty, and flavour, unlike other flautists.

Pianist, Dr Kenji Fujimura is internationally renowned for his pianistic ability to present an eclectic range of repertoire with ‘understanding, sympathy and technical prowess’. In 2015, Kenji was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, London, for his ‘significant contribution to the music profession’.

It is an honour to have such remarkable musicians here at Opus 30.

This evocative, romantic recital includes key masterworks by Anton Dvorak – Sonatina for violin and piano in G Major Op,100, transcribed for flute and piano; Carl Nielsen’s two fantasy pieces; and the simply gorgeous Cesar Franck Sonata for violin and piano in A Major ( transcribed for flute and piano).
